Calls grow for Susie Wiles to resign after midterm losses
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles faces calls to resign after Republicans lost both chambers of Congress. Steve Bannon and Nick Fuentes are among those demanding her removal.
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is facing calls to resign after Republicans suffered widespread losses in the midterm elections, according to The Daily Beast.
Steve Bannon is among those calling for Wiles’ removal, according to The Hill. Republicans lost both chambers of Congress, including defeats in ruby-red Iowa, Kansas and South Carolina.
Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist podcast host, said Wiles “should be fired tomorrow” and argued that Vance and Rubio “should never get close to the nomination in 2028.”
Wiles told Vanity Fair in December 2025 that “We’re going to win the midterms.” The party lost the House and the Senate.
MAGA supporters on X called for Wiles to be fired. One wrote that “MAGA has been infiltrated and destroyed by neocons.” Another said she “should be on the unemployment line by tomorrow.”
Wiles, 69, led Ron DeSantis’ 2018 Florida gubernatorial campaign and Rick Scott’s 2010 bid for the same office.
President Donald Trump, 80, claims he is “eager” to make deals with Democrats because he does not want to spend the next two years “vetoing everything.”
What the coverage missed
The coverage focused on who is calling for Wiles to resign. The part that got less attention is what she got wrong.
Wiles predicted a midterm win in December 2025. The party lost both chambers. The prediction was not a guess. It was a statement of confidence from the chief of staff, the person responsible for the political operation.
The losses included ruby-red states. Iowa, Kansas and South Carolina are not swing states. Losing them is not a matter of candidate quality or messaging. It is a failure of the operation.
Trump says he is eager to make deals. The chief of staff who predicted a win is now working with a Democratic Congress. The prediction and the result are on the record together.
What I think
Wiles told Vanity Fair the party would win the midterms. The party lost the House and the Senate. She was not close. She was not in the right neighborhood.
The calls for her resignation are coming from Bannon, Fuentes and MAGA voices on X. They are not coming from the president. Trump is talking about making deals with Democrats. He is not talking about firing his chief of staff.
Wiles may leave. David Rothkopf suggested she could be weighing her next move. Turnover halfway through an administration is normal. But the prediction she made and the result she produced are not normal. They are a Democratic majority in the House and a Democratic Senate.
The chief of staff is responsible for the political operation. The operation produced a wipeout. The question is not whether Wiles keeps her job. The question is whether the person who predicted a win and delivered a loss is the person who should be running the next operation.
