John Krasinski returns as Jack Ryan in a feature film sequel to the Prime Video series, with the trailer for Jack Ryan: Ghost War released this week, Variety reported.

The film picks up after the events of the series, which ran for four seasons on Prime Video. Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly reprise their roles as James Greer and Mike November. New cast members include Betty Gabriel and Sienna Miller.

The film is set for release on May 20, 2026 on Prime Video.

What the coverage missed

The series was canceled. The movie is not a continuation — it is a second chance. Prime Video spent heavily on Jack Ryan and got four seasons of decent ratings. Canceling a show and then making a movie with the same lead is a bet that the audience will come back for a one-off event when they would not come back for a weekly commitment.

Krasinski is also directing. That is the detail that got one line in the Variety piece and deserves more. He directed A Quiet Place and its sequel. He knows how to build tension. Jack Ryan is a different kind of thriller, but the skill set transfers. If the movie works, it is because Krasinski controlled the tone.

What I think

This is the right move. The series had run out of story. Four seasons of Jack Ryan saving the world is enough. A two-hour movie with a single mission is a better format for this character. Tom Clancy wrote novels, not television arcs.

Krasinski is a good Jack Ryan. He is not the best — that is still Harrison Ford — but he is credible in the role and he cares about the material. If Ghost War works, expect more films. If it does not, this is the last one.
